The Selfie Movie Awards competition is meant to be a fun and exciting experience. From the selection and making of your movie clip to the anticipation of the awards night gala banquet itself, FUN! is the theme. Obviously, it's going to be a little 'tongue-in-cheek', yet we also want to encourage those of you who take cinematography seriously to go ahead and produce your best effort. And for those of you who are first-time filmmakers, don't worry so much about the final quality of your clip, most of the judging will be centered on the acting, creativity, and fan response.
There are four categories to choose from, but feel free to mix it up if you'd like. Take a dramatic scene and make it a comedy! Add a superhero to your horror scene! Make it fun for you and in turn, it'll be fun for those who watch your clip.
The four categories participants can choose from are:
You and your spouse or partner, or you and a group of your friends will work together to select a famous scene from one of your favorite movies or TV shows. Together, you will try to reproduce that scene as best as you can in the form of a video clip. You will then submit your clip to the Selfie Movie Awards competition for a possible SMA Award.
There are some very iconic scenes from movies and TV shows going way back to the beginning of moving pictures to choose from - "Here's looking at you kid" (Casablanca, 1943), or from TV, "and by the way,... they're real and they're spectacular!" (Seinfeld, The Implant)- We can't wait to see what popular scene you pull out of the proverbial movie or TV hat with your selections.
There are no rules as to how you make your clip. It can be super simple and cheezy (FUN) or you can go all out to produce something special highlighting your cinematic abilities. Use your iPhone, or your video camera, or hire pros to help you. Be sure to check out our 'Resources' page for tips, how-to videos, and links to videographers who can help you make your clip. Salons that can offer hair and make-up services, and fashionistas who can help with your wardrobe or your gown for the Gala Awards Night. Please try not to choose a scene that is longer than 3 to 5 minutes yet, if the scene you want to recreate is well-known, but is somewhat long, go ahead, we'll still work with it.
The Selfie Movie Awards (SMA's) clips will be judged on creativity, accuracy, and likes or votes from family, friends, and fans. A panel of local distinguished, and perhaps not-so-distinguished, arts & media professionals and celebrities will be selected to help judge the submitted SMA clips.
So let's go! Get to work! Get your SMA clip made and submitted ASAP as the cut-off date will be February 1st, 2025. Plus, the sooner you submit your clip the more votes you can amass from family and friends logging in to view and vote for your clip.
The first awards banquet is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd, 2023. We're not sure where the banquet will be held as we don't know how many entrees we'll be submitted and how many people will be in their respective entourages. But, we will have a gala event complete with the Red Carpet, the Paparazzi, Limos, Beautiful Gowns, and Tuxedos, (who are you wearing?!) and all in the name of Fun & Fantasy!
Now get to work on your clip!!! Lights! Camera! Action!
